The snow-capped Illimani above La Paz on a clear day

IT General Manager · Aachen · Bolivia

Christoph Waninger

From the Andes to Aachen – I connect people with technology.

I am IT General Manager at ModuleWorks in Aachen, where I lead the IT team. I started there as a working student in IT support – before that, I headed an IT department in La Paz. Between these stations lies everything that makes good IT: systems, networks, support, documentation, organisation. And above all, people.

Everyday work

How it all fits together

Whether it's a new system, a security incident or a colleague who wants to learn something new: hardly any task belongs to a single field. Three typical flows show how the areas interlock – and why someone has to hold the threads together.

Introducing a new system

Whether ERP or an internal tool: technology alone is not enough.

A security incident

When things get serious, every handover has to work.

A colleague wants to learn something new

Picking up an interest and connecting it with a network of people and opportunities. Here, network doesn't mean cables – it means good connections between people.

Every flow needs all six areas – and someone who connects them.

Bolivia 2013–2015

The Bolivia years

From 2013 to 2015 I lived and worked in Bolivia: in La Paz, first in IT support at Amazontel, then as head of the IT department at Cominesa – around 100 users, networks, satellite internet for remote mines, all in Spanish. In between, I travelled a lot, to very different corners of the country.

It is people who make technology interesting. Technology alone does not live.

In Bolivia I understood what culture means.

Bolivia is more to me than a stop on my CV. It is where I met my wife, and where we got married. Since then, the country and its people have been a part of me – and I a small part of Bolivia.
